Before you record a single revenue entry or set a revenue goal, two workspace settings determine how all Finance module data is displayed and aggregated: the default currency and the fiscal year start month. Setting these correctly on day one saves you from misaligned annual totals later.
Northwoods Outfitters runs a May–April fiscal year because their busy season ends in April. When Diego set the fiscal year start to May before entering their first revenue records, every "annual" report and goal-attainment view naturally aligned to their planning cycle rather than the calendar year.
Before you start
- Only admin and owner roles can change Finance module settings.
- The Finance module must be enabled. Go to Settings → Modules and toggle it on if Finance is not listed.
- Changing the fiscal year start month after revenue has been entered does not retroactively move entries — it changes how the reporting engine groups them going forward.
Step 1: Open Finance module settings
Navigate to Settings → Modules → Finance (or follow the link from the Finance sidebar). The settings panel shows two sections: Display and Fiscal year.
Step 2: Set the default currency
In the Display section, click the Currency dropdown. The list shows ISO 4217 currency codes with their display symbols — USD ($), CAD (CA$), EUR (€), GBP (£), AUD (A$), and several others.
Select the currency your workspace uses for revenue reporting. This setting controls:
- The symbol shown on all revenue and budget figures throughout the Finance module
- The currency label in exported reports
- The currency field default when a new revenue entry or budget is created
The currency is a display setting — SPLX OS does not convert amounts between currencies. If your workspace handles multiple currencies, record all amounts in a single base currency and note conversions in the entry description.
Click Save after selecting.
Step 3: Set the fiscal year start month
In the Fiscal year section, click the Fiscal year starts dropdown. Select the month your fiscal year begins — for example, May for a May–April cycle, or January for a calendar year.
This setting affects:
- The annual revenue goal attainment calculation — the goal period runs from the selected start month through the month before the start month in the following year
- The budget period default when creating a new budget
- The "YTD" and "annual" labels in the Finance dashboard and reports
Click Save after selecting.
Step 4: Verify the impact on the Finance dashboard
Navigate to Finance → Dashboard (or /finance/dashboard). Check the period labels on the KPI tiles:
- MTD revenue reflects the current calendar month, not the fiscal month — this tile always means "this calendar month."
- YTD revenue reflects revenue from the start of the current fiscal year through today.
- Annual goal attainment measures progress from your fiscal year start date through your fiscal year end date.
If the fiscal year start is set correctly, the "YTD" figure should align with what you expect from your own books.
