SPLX OS is built around the principle that good work starts with a good idea. The Ideas board is where anyone on your team can surface a suggestion, a problem, or an opportunity. Once an idea has been reviewed and validated, an admin can promote it into a project or task — carrying the context forward without any copy-pasting.
How ideas reach the promotion stage
Ideas move through a defined status flow:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Submitted | Newly created; not yet reviewed |
| Under review | An admin is actively evaluating it |
| In progress | Promoted to a project or task |
| Rejected | Declined; stays visible in history |
| Solved | The underlying problem has been addressed |
| Dropped | Deprioritized; no further action planned |
Promotion is available only on ideas in Submitted or Under review status. Once an idea reaches In progress, Solved, or Dropped, the promote action is no longer available.
Step 1: Find the idea
Navigate to Execution → Ideas in the sidebar. The default list view shows Submitted and Under review ideas. If you're looking for an idea in another status, use the status filter chips at the top of the page to reveal it.
Click the idea's row to open its detail page.
Step 2: Review scores and votes before promoting
Before promoting, it's worth glancing at two signals:
- Upvote count — visible in both the list and the detail page. Diego, a team lead at Northwoods Outfitters, reviews upvote counts every Monday to identify which ideas have the most momentum before committing to a project.
- Impact and effort scores — admins can rate each idea on a 1–5 scale for both impact and effort. These scores place ideas in the Implement / Plan / Consider / Kill matrix on the Matrix view of the Ideas page. A high-impact, low-effort idea is a natural promote candidate.
To set scores, open the idea's detail page. The impact and effort inputs appear in the sidebar panel (admin only).
Step 3: Promote the idea
On the idea's detail page, look for the Promote button (visible to admins only). You have two options:
Promote to project
This creates a full project with the idea's title and description. The new project links back to the source idea so you can always trace its origin. The idea status is automatically set to In progress.
You're navigated directly to the new project's detail page, where you can add members, milestones, and tasks.
Mei Lin, the operations manager at Bayou & Co., uses this flow whenever an idea comes out of their monthly strategy review. The link between idea and project keeps the "why" visible throughout delivery.
Promote to task
This creates a standalone task — useful for ideas that are small enough to execute directly without a full project structure. Like the project path, the idea status is set to In progress and the task links back to the idea.
The new task appears in the Tasks list at /execution/tasks.
After promoting
Once promoted, the idea's status changes to In progress and the promote button disappears. The idea remains visible in the Ideas list under that status — use the status filter chip to show In progress ideas if you want to see what's being actively worked.
If the linked project is later marked Completed, the idea is automatically resolved as Solved. If the project is Cancelled or Abandoned, the idea is marked Dropped. No manual cleanup needed.
What comes next
If you promoted to a project, the next step is adding milestones and collaborators — see How to create your first project for a full walkthrough.
