How to use the Kanban board

Switch to Board view on any project and drag tasks across columns to update their status in real time.

Open in SPLX OS

Every project in SPLX OS has three views: List, Board, and Timeline. The Board view is a Kanban layout — tasks grouped into columns by status, draggable between columns to update their status without opening a detail panel.

Switching to Board view

Open a project by navigating to Execution → Projects and clicking any project row. At the top of the task area, you'll see a three-segment toggle: List · Board · Timeline. Click Board to switch.

The board renders immediately using the current task data — no page reload.

Reading the columns

The board has four columns, one per status:

Column Status
To Do Not started
In Progress Actively being worked
In Review Work complete; awaiting review
Done Finished

Each column header shows a task count badge. Cancelled tasks are not shown on the board.

Priya at Northwoods Outfitters uses the board view during weekly check-ins with her team. The four columns give an at-a-glance read of where work is stalled versus flowing — "five tasks stuck in In Review" is visible before she opens a single task.

Dragging to update status

Drag a task card from one column and drop it onto another to change its status. The move is applied immediately. If the API call fails, the card snaps back to its original column.

A drag requires moving the card at least 8 pixels before it "picks up" — this threshold prevents accidental drags when clicking to open a task.

Opening a task from the board

Click a task card (without dragging) to open the task detail panel on the right. From there you can update the title, description, owner, due date, milestone, priority, and tags — the same fields available in List view.

Adding tasks from the board

Each column has an + Add task button at the bottom. Clicking it opens the new task dialog with the status pre-set to that column's status. The task appears in the column immediately after creation.

Mei Lin at Bayou & Co. adds tasks directly to the In Progress column during standups when work starts on the spot — it skips the To Do stage for items that are already underway.

Switching back to List view

Click List in the view toggle to return to the table layout. The task data is shared between views, so changes made in Board view appear in List view immediately.

What comes next

The board view shows tasks within a single project. For a cross-project view of all tasks assigned to you or your team, see the Tasks list at /execution/tasks — covered in How to create and assign tasks.
